Not long to go now I’d say. If it wasn’t for the Ranger I suppose Ford wouldn’t do much business either.
Bad year overall in Australia looking at those figures.

only down a little, but yes if Ford didn’t have the Ranger, they’d be in deep shit
mind you the 2.0L Ranger is on stop sale due to fuel injector issues

Only local production. Tariffs in the past meant that Australia had a significant car manufacturing sector but without tariffs it wasn’t sustainable. Most vehicles so ld there now are made in the Far East.

I see, thanks for the info. Is it possible that production will return down under or is this for good?

So let me get this straight. If you starve a brand of decent and relevant product, then sales drop? Interesting ...

Not a chance of Australian production again. It’s a high cost country without a big enough local market.

People only bought Holden “because made in Australia”. Now that they’ve finally come to realize that Holden is in fact General Motors with a badge , they’ve finally started buying cars that are actually good.

Gm execs: see, this is why we dropped those products

Holdens were designed by Aussies. The only GM parts were the drivetrains.

Then which is it? “Designed and built by Aussies”, or “GM badge swap”?
Pick one.

Actually, with the Commodore and Astra gone, the lineup’s production amounts to this:
US: Acadia, Camaro (HSV modified), Silverado HD (HSV modified), Corvette (yes, Holden dealers will be selling the C8 Corvette, since it’s going to be built in RHD)
Mexico: Equinox (H as Holden Equinox production restarted yet? Wikipedia says no, but that’s said that for a while now)
Thailand: Colorado, TrailBlazer
South Korea: Spark (New Zealand only, as it hasn’t been removed from the lineup there), Trax
If you DO count the HSV modified Chevrolets, 5 out of 8 (9 in New Zealand) Holden models are built in North America, more than 50%.
If not, then the Far East level is 4 of 6 (7 in New Zealand), more than 50%.

In terms of actual numbers sold though I'd guess that the Thai built ones are in the majority and that the North American ones are more niche products.
